In the Beginning ...
They say necessity is the mother of invention. I guess that makes the origin of HarvestSoaps somewhat of a cliché, but it's true! For years, I suffered from a mysterious skin condition that had dermatologists scratching their heads. Finally, after trying every lotion, potion, and snake oil on the market, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I was armed with one tiny scrap of knowledge: my skin was the most red, irritated, and itchy after showering. With that in mind, I searched the stores in vain for a soap made with natural ingredients, no perfumes or dyes, and no chemical additives. To make a long story short, I decided it would be a lot easier to make my own completely pure and natural soap. Inspired by a gift of wonderful goat's milk soap from a friend, my first attempt was an olive oil base with goat's milk and essential oil of Lavender. Not only was the lather creamy and the scent transcendent, but-Voila- no more itchy skin!!!
Needless to say what began as a little necessity and some determination blossomed into a house full of soap! I loved the soap so much that I wanted to make more with ingredients like oatmeal, honey, aloe, cocoa butter, herbs, fruit, flowers, and vegetables-the possibilities were endless! Above all, I wanted each one to be filled with the goodness of nature! As you can imagine, the soap began to pile up; we gave it to friends, family, and complete strangers for Christmas, birthdays, or no reason at all! Eventually, we decided to share our soap with the whole world; we called it
'Harvest Soaps' because we began with ingredients harvested from our own garden! |
